Somewhere between the stillness of dawn and the rhythm of the tide, a miracle unfolded. This morning, the Six Senses Con Dao team quietly reached a remarkable milestone: 30,000 sea turtles safely released into the ocean since the launch of the resort’s conservation program in 2018.

With World Sea Turtle Day approaching on June 16, the moment serves as more than a number — it is a tribute to years of patient stewardship, an enduring partnership with Con Dao National Park, and the unwavering hope that nature, when protected, always finds its way. 

Set against the serene backdrop of a protected marine reserve, the “Let’s Get Cracking” Incubation Center was born from a vision: to not only protect a critically endangered species, but also to educate, inspire, and connect. Each egg, each hatchling, each story carries a message — that mindful tourism can make a lasting impact. 

“I’ve watched every season like chapters in a story. From the first nest to the 30,000th hatchling, it’s not just a job — it’s a purpose,” shared Mr. Tran Hieu Thien, who has been coordinating the partnership between Six Senses Con Dao and the Con Dao National Park since the inception of the incubation center. “Even after 7 years, each release feels like the first time. You never forget the joy of watching them crawl into the sea.” 

Mr. Lakmal Asanka, Resort Manager at Six Senses Con Dao, reflected: “This milestone is not ours alone. It belongs to the rangers, the guests who joined turtle releases, the children who listened to Turtle Talks, and every team member who believed in the mission. Our responsibility is long-term, and this is just the beginning.” Ms. Tabyldieva Erkaiym, Sustainability Manager, added: “It’s not just about protecting turtles. It’s about shifting perspectives. Each hatchling we help into the sea is a promise — to this planet, to future generations, and to the communities we serve. Our conservation isn’t a campaign. It’s a way of life.” 

As we prepare to celebrate World Sea Turtle Day on June 16, the release of our 30,000th hatchling is more than a number—it is a symbol. A symbol of care, of commitment, and of collective hope. The milestone reflects years of early dawns and quiet nights; of our team patrolling the beach under starlight, gently relocating eggs to safety, educating guests with passion, and watching with each miraculous hatching as baby turtles crawl bravely towards the ocean. It is a symbol of what can happen when a community chooses to care deeply and act consistently.
